"I have never believed in fairies!" Rose says, stomping her tiny foot, "and people who do believe in fairies are silly!"
She's only kidding, though. After all, if a fairy didn't believe in fairies, that would be pretty silly too, don't you think?
"I don't know why people don't believe in us," she continues. "We've been playing Fairy Games for thousands of Turnes. You'd think everyone would know who we are by now!"
Once every Turne, which is kind of like an Earth year but quite a bit longer, fairies take time out of their busy schedules of playing and laughing to reveal themselves to humans. On the Festival of Games, one very special day, the fairies find someone, or some ones, special and spend an entire afternoon playing Fairy Games. Learn how fairies live. Eat fairy food. Make fairy art. But what happens if you don't want to go back home? What will the Dark Fairies say? You thought it was all just Fairy Games until...
Plenty of opportunities for real world learning, skill practice, and creativity.
Scavenger hunt style. Set in an ordinary place in the present time. Attempted murder only (poison, not gory).

This was a multi-age party held for my daughter. All of the girls had a great time!! We really enjoyed the variety of activities included in the kit so that we had constant amusement and change. We can't wait to host another mystery party!! Such fun!!

I just hosted a Fairy Games party for my daughter's 9th birthday. It was a lot of fun! We had 8 girls. I alotted 3 hours for the party which I was worried might be too long but it actually worked out perfectly. We did omit the homeland video, the Blacksmith story and the Cut Throat Math game. Instead of new hairstyles we made head garlands with ivy and flowers and ribbons and we also played two other games that I added in. They really had fun pretending to be their characters and doing all the activities. They had a blast with the recipe hunt and trying to figure out who the dark fairy was. I played Queen Echo and I found typing out my script and what I had to do next and carrying that around with me really helped me in keeping straight what I had to say and do instead of flipping back and forth between the game materials. I would definitely recommend this party.

Fairy Games was a blast! I played the king for the occasion of my daughter''s 9th birthday party, with 12 girls playing the various characters. I have a lot of experience with role-playing games, and was really impressed with both how well-planned and organized the directions are, and with the steady build-up of dramatic tension as the mystery progresses.
My primary advice to someone who''s going to host this mystery is to take time to prepare beforehand. We created a ''magical space'' to enact the drama by decorating our enclosed patio with "fairy stuff" - wispy and sparkly fabrics, leaves, vines, twigs, you get the idea - and fairy costumes for the players. This really got the girls into the narrative, and immersion in the story is what roleplay is all about. Another essential preparation is to read through the entire script in advance and familiarize yourself with the dramatic flow and how everything will fit together. What you''re doing is improv theater with no audience, only actors, and like good improv, the director needs to have a clear sense of where you want the story to go. Knowing what needs to happen for the drama to unfold will let you guide the action toward its resolution with ad lib clues, remarks, etc. A quick skim of the materials didn''t give me a sense of how it would all work, but once I read the entire script carefully it made perfect sense, and I realized how well-thought-out the Fairy Games scenario is. Our group had an absolute blast! Even now, three years later, both our daughters say that Fairy Games was the best birthday party we''ve ever done. Enjoy!

Fairy Games was the perfect party for our nine year old guests. It allowed them to dress up, act, play and problem solve. We used the suggestion to use baby powder in the posion letters and they really thought it was posion. They screamed when they discovered the identity of the assassin. We only used the required activities in round one, round three and four- and it still lasted 3 hours, including dinner, cake and presents. We would highly recommend this party and look forward to doing more mystery birthday parties!

This was a big success. The girls all had a great time. I hired a teen to play the Queen so I would be freed up to deal with getting crafts ready etc. That worked out really well. We opted not to do the math game as we had girls varying in age so felt the older ones would definately have an advantage. I had several other crafts that were substituted. Instead of ribbons we used flowered ivy garland and made wreathes for the girls to wear. They looked very beautiful. The scavenger hunt was a ton of fun and hysterical to watch.
The program was a bit harder to follow than others we have used as you have to jump back and forth from the script areas, and the "the Book". It is a bit confusing in parts because they are referring to "clues" so you are looking for addition slips of paper like the ones that are handed out towards the end but there aren't any. Once you sit down and really go through it, you realize they are referring to dialogue that occurs. Overall a great mystery but plan to sit down for an hr to really go over everything to ensure that you have a good mental picture of how things will proceed.

This mystery was easy to implement and gave us more than enough games and activities! We had a three hour party and in omitting the math game, the Blacksmith story and the video of fairy land, we only had 15 minutes of "free time" which we used to blow bubbles outside in the sun! This way , we did not feel rushed to open presents or cut the cake. The girls all had fun and ranged in ages from 5 to 12. The game Stumbles really helped with knowing names, etc. and the hair braiding and art were big hits.
I did, however, as Queen Echo, feel that there was a lot for me to read while I was trying to organize a birthday, so have a friend to assist and a spouse to take pictures as I did. I also inserted the info that the "dark fairy" was under a spell from the dark fairy king and that is why she poisoned the party guests. . . I felt this saved some feelings when I announced she was no longer under the spell ( I removed it with my wand!) Great game!
